Here comes Banff

I signed up for this race because we were expecting our little one in June and I thought I'd do a few races and start in July and go later since the Banff race was added to the calender this year. It was named one of the 10 most anticipated races of the year... With the poor weather we have been having the lake will be cold I get that. But why would a so-called organiser not build some time flexibility into their permits for a race held in almost mid september? ... I raced the worlds in Vancouver 2008 and it was hands down the poorest run event I have ever been in. Banff might be awesome or it might be the worst ever. There is a reason the Vancouver event was "put down" like a rabid dog.

Example of a bike/transit hub in Leeds

Here is a commuter rail /bike hub in the UK. I hope this pilot project goes well.

Photo of the Day 100821 Licky Lick Ride

1st stop - at Amato Gelato.

Thanks to the twenty of you that came out for a casual cruise around a selection of the city's ice cream parlours. In Addition to overdosing on sugar, I got to see some unique bikes - like the electric internally geared 20" pocket bike from Cannondale Japan, or the Joe Bike cargo- and kid-carrying bike. And also, lots of new faces, like the young Persian woman that has been in Calgary for only a month.

Good times!

Sweet Bike Transportation video

Check out this great video centered on bikes, beer, and transportation. Something that concerns most of us.

My favorite quote " I'm not going to get on a soap box about how everyone should tow a load on their bike that weighs more than them, but..."

Cyclocross Bikes and Disc Brakes... The UCI changes the rules... finally

This is one UCI rule change that will affect bike commuters who like to ride cx bikes due to their versatility. It looks like going forward we will be seeing a change to disc brakes on these bikes (you can get some already but many companies didn't want to risk building 'illegal' bikes)... The other change I see is the max tire width will now be 33mm so expect some models to be 33 instead of 34 or 35 as well.

Not again!!! Sounds like there is yet another proposition to ban bicycles in the MD of Rockyview.

I just spoke to a friend today who was chatting with a MD of Rockyview constable. The conversation steered to cycling at which the constable casually mentioned that a bicycle hating lawyer, who lives in Bearspaw, is bringing forward to council a motion to remove the status of a bicycle as a 'vehicle.' In doing so there is the possibility that bicycles could be banned from all MD roadways. This is new information and I don't have all the details. Just thought I should raise the alarm. I just checked and there is no mention of this issue on the June 22nd council agenda. The council usually meets every Tuesday and posts the agenda the week before.

Great snow clearing, viva Italia
