Calgary wins winter cycling excellence award

... “They were selected for their commitment to year-round cycling in general,” said Anders Swanson, Canada Bikes Chair. “The focus on taking it as an essential service, and collecting data.” ...

Congratulations to Calgary Parks and Calgary Roads!  I've really appreciate all your hard work this winter.

... Coun. Gian-Carlo Carra said he thinks in some ways the city is following the rest of the world, and other ways they’re leading. ...

This feels so true.  I've been following Biketoria in Victoria and while their plan was to do Calgary's minimum grid, based on how they split up the funding approval and design for each street separately, instead it seems to have degenerate into repeating acrimony over and over.  So glad that Calgary did the downtown cycle tracks the way they did despite the pilot nature, losing/delaying 1 St SE and drama.  Do not want to imagine what it would have been like if Calgary had done 5 St in 2014, Stephen Ave and 9 Ave in 2015, and 12 Ave in 2016.  At the same time there's so much more other cities are doing/have done (work to be done here still).
